A small collection of scripts and utilities I’ve built to support astronomy data processing, equipment automation, and observatory workflow. Source code for each tool is available on GitHub.

  • SharpCap Session Analyzer

    SharpCap Session Analyzer

Analyzes SharpCap session logs into clear, structured reports. It extracts capture-sequence activity, guiding and dithering events, autofocus runs, meridian flips, and thermal focus corrections, then summarizes session diagnostics. Reports are available in JSON, CSV, and plain-text formats, making it easier to review observing sessions and investigate issues.

  • PHD2 Session Analyzer

    PHD2 Session Analyzer

PHD2 Session Analyzer is a Python tool for analysing PHD2 guiding logs. It extracts dithering and settling results, guiding configuration, RA/DEC errors, SNR trends, possible cloud-related events, and timeout patterns, producing clear session reports and CSV data for astrophotography troubleshooting and long-term performance comparison.

  • Unsupervised X-ray Source Detection in XMM-Newton with HDBSCAN

Unsupervised X-ray Source Detection in XMM-Newton with HDBSCAN

Master’s thesis project applying HDBSCAN — a density-based clustering algorithm — to detect X-ray source candidates directly from raw XMM-Newton EPIC-pn event files. Validated over 100 observations across 4 hyperparameter profiles, achieving median matching distances of ~3.35 arcsec against the official SAS pipeline.

  • Reading BME280 Sensor on Windows 11 via USB-I2C (CH341T_V3)

    Reading BME280 Sensor on Windows 11 via USB-I2C (CH341T_V3)

Python service running on Windows 11 that reads a BME280 sensor via USB-I2C (CH341T_V3), publishes temperature, humidity and pressure to Home Assistant over MQTT, and feeds SharpCap’s Observing Conditions in real time.

  • SharpCap EQMOD PPEC auto enable

    SharpCap EQMOD PPEC auto enable

SharpCap startup script that waits for the mount to connect and begin sidereal tracking, then checks and enables PPEC through EQMOD/EQASCOM. It verifies the resulting state and reports the outcome. Requires a PPEC curve already recorded on the mount.

  • SharpCap Focus Sequencer

    SharpCap Focus Sequencer

Provides thermal focus correction for SharpCap sequences. It applies temperature-based corrections between exposures using a pre-calibrated TCF coefficient, helping keep stars sharp without interrupting guiding.

  • SharpCap Focus Temperature

    SharpCap Focus Temperature

Extracts autofocus results from SharpCap logs, filters outliers, fits a focus–temperature regression, and calculates the TCF for temperature compensation.
