Description

The Cocoon Nebula (IC 5146) is a compact emission and reflection nebula in the constellation Cygnus, located at the edge of the dark nebula Barnard 168. Its reddish glow is produced by ionized hydrogen surrounding a young, embedded star cluster, while dark interstellar dust shapes the striking contrast between the luminous cocoon and the surrounding star field.
