Description

NGC6992 and NGC6995 — the Eastern Veil Nebula form a luminous section of the Cygnus Loop, an immense supernova remnant in the constellation of Cygnus. The delicate filaments trace shock waves expanding through interstellar space after the explosion of a massive star thousands of years ago.
Red hydrogen emission and blue-green oxygen emission reveal the complex structure of the shocked gas, set against the dense stellar background of the Milky Way.
